AL RAHMA FLOATING MOSQUE

Nestled on the Corniche Road in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, the Al Rahma Floating Mosque, also known as the Fatima Al Zahra Mosque, graces the northern tip of Jeddah’s waterfront. Connected to the shore by a walkway, this iconic mosque, built in 1985, draws numerous visitors. Its nickname, the ‘floating mosque,’ is aptly earned during high tide, as it seems to gracefully hover above the Red Sea’s waves, supported by stilts that suspend it over the water’s edge. Architecturally, the mosque harmoniously blends traditional and contemporary Islamic elements.

Its striking turquoise domed structure, complemented by a white minaret, features 52 outer domes in addition to the central one. The mosque’s exterior boasts 23 intricately engraved umbrellas, adorned with verses from the Holy Quran. Inside, 56 Islamic-style windows infuse the space with natural light. The central dome is elegantly supported by eight pillars, while the roof showcases stained glass and a graceful chandelier. Modern amenities, including advanced lighting and sound systems, enhance the functionality. Visitors can find a dedicated prayer area and a wudhu (ablution) space.
